ENEX, the cooperative global news provider, is looking for a talented journalist to join its team as its first News Editor based in Latin America.
ENEX is a quickly expanding network of some of the biggest and most prestigious commercial broadcasters in the world, spanning five continents. Our news desk coordinates the gathering, sharing and sourcing of more than 30.000 news stories yearly between our 40+ members, 10 of which are based in Latin America.
Role:
The LATAM News Editor will be based in the Region, preferably in the offices of one of our Latin American members. He/she will report directly to the Head of News in Luxembourg and will be working on a daily shift plan that complements the working hours of our European newsroom. The successful candidate will be expected to work in close cooperation with the newsroom in Luxembourg and follow joint strategy plans.
The LATAM News Editor’s main responsibility will be to facilitate the exchange of pictures and news stories between our members in Latin America and Europe. He or she will need to make fast decisions based on sound editorial knowledge, which set the daily priorities for ENEX in the region. The Lat NE must then be able to clearly communicate those priorities to the respective partners (members or third-party providers) to make this content available to our network. You will review stories generated by our partners and assist partners’ staff in creating and sharing content that is interesting and usable across our network. You will also act as an ambassador of ENEX in the region and as a facilitator of relationships between Latin American and European members. You will also need to develop a close working relationship with the member broadcaster that hosts you.
Experience & Skills:
You will need to be a first-class journalist who combines a passion for news with a talent for communicating with our partner’s editorial teams. You will need to able to create and nurture relationships with third-party content providers, so that when breaking news happen you can source the picture irrespective of the provider. You must be fast to recognise breaking news and fast to react.
You will need to be self-motivated and have the confidence to work on your own. There will be training, support and guidance from the rest of the team in Luxembourg but the time differences will mean you will need the confidence to take decisions alone if necessary.
In order to qualify for the position you have the following attributes:
• You have experience in a national or regional Broadcaster or a News Agency as a foreign news journalist or a journalistic / editorial coordinator respectively
• You possess excellent written and verbal communication skills both in Spanish and English
• You are able to build solid working relationships in an international environment
• If you have editing, technical news coordination or news production experience, this would be an advantage
• You must have a strong attention to detail and accuracy. ENEX places the highest value on its excellent reputation for journalistic integrity.
